How to create a script breakdown

Producing a movie starts with planning the logistical and budgeting aspects to ensure for a smooth production process. To do this, a producer needs to create scene breakdowns.

To break down a script, you must read through each scene and write down which elements will be needed to shoot the scene. Write down the scene numbers at the top of the breakdown sheet template, and then use the list of elements within the template to identify needs, such as props, stunts, special effects and more.

Once the script breakdown sheets are created, they can be shared with the producing team and department heads to create call sheets, and begin the pre-production process.

Breakdown sheets also assist in building out the shooting schedule in scheduling software such as Assemble.
